About Us

The Petrolia Pioneers Society is made up of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists and the Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists student chapters at the University of Western Ontario, London, Canada. The CSPG chapter was founded in 2008, and AAPG in late 2009. Ultimately sharing the same goals, the two chapters were amalgamated into one society, the Petrolia Pioneers, in the Fall of 2010. The society gets its name from nearby Petrolia, Ontario – home of the world’s oldest oil company and North America’s first oil boom.

As student members of the AAPG and CSPG, we are eligible for scholarship and award opportunities at the undergraduate and graduate level. Members also have access to monthly publications, field trip funding and networking events.

Our society is partly funded by AAPG, CSPG, and fundraisers, but we are always looking for support (see our Support Us tab). This year our executive committee is striving to give the PPS a fresh start by re-establishing strong student attendance and bringing monthly events back to the department. The PPS welcomes new members at the graduate and undergraduate level – drop in to one of our events or send us an email.
